Columbus, OH – We started tracking the trend of the growing number of “disillusioned doctors” who are overwhelmed due to new requirements, expectations, and demands of their jobs in our 2015 Health Trends report (shameless plug). However, a recent announcement from telehealth provider American Well and physician social network Doximity signals that telehealth may be officially becoming a viable, alternative career path for these doctors and one that offers a more appealing lifestyle.

The two platforms officially announced a partnership to bring telehealth to doctors looking to extend care beyond the brick and mortar. American Well and Doximity have long been connected – more than half of the board-certified physicians on American Well’s platform got there via Doximity – but they decided to formalize their effort to present remote care as a very real career option not just ancillary income.

What this partnership means for the two in terms of new initiatives or features remains to be seen, but it’s another sign that a career in telemedicine is more and more becoming a consideration for doctors as we move into 2016. We’ll keep you posted.
